Job Summary:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager & working with the design team leads to manage the technical interface between the design team & other project stakeholders.
As a business we carry out a range of Substation, Transmission and Distribution design work from 11kV to 132kV including Primary, Secondary, Protection & control, Cable route, Civils and Structures.
The role responsibilities will principally involve the managing the design technical interface with specialist sub-contractors, client technical representatives, design authorities & construction teams. The role will be involved in the main design phase through to the completion of delivery.
This will include managing the design review process, (Hazop, IDR) liaising with specialist sub-contractors, interfacing with construction teams, completing design compliance reviews of construction works & supervising temporary works design as well as building constructability into all of our design. You would also be expected to provide advice & guidance to the design team with civil engineering design & consents.
The role would suit somebody with an engineering background who is self-motivated & has a pro-active approach to problem solving with experience of project supervision within the power, engineering or construction environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Engineering manager & Team Leads with the planning & control of the design team, including but not limited to the following:
- Management of design compliance review procedures.
- Leading in constructability within design
- Managing the technical interface with project stakeholders.
- Liaising with civil engineering design sub-contractors & providing civil design support/guidance to the design team.
- Providing an interface with the construction teams, including carrying out site based design compliance reviews & assisting in the project completion process.
- Supervision of Temporary Works Design.
- Liaising with land consents & surveying sub-contractors. Provide land consents advice & guidance to the design team.
- Support the engineering team with the creation, implementation & monitoring of business processes.
- Attending periodic team & client meetings.
- Supporting site survey & inspection visits.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
Qualifications
- A minimum preferred level of a degree and Chartered Status in either Civil or Structural engineering.
Experience
- Significant experience in both managing and delivering in the role of Principal Designer
- Demonstratable experience in managing Site based Temporary works designs
- Stakeholder management experience
- Managing sub-contractors in both Design and at times Delivery stages
- Resource management & control.
- Project supervision & commercial issues.
- Business & quality management processes.
- Knowledge of relevant British & International standards.
- Knowledge of UK H&S standards, including CDM regulations.
- Knowledge of Business & Quality Management Processes.
Skills
- Understanding of BIM
- Good written, verbal communication & interpersonal skills.
- Good personal management, decision making & problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Good computer literacy, including use of Microsoft office (word, excel & email).
- Experience in the use of CAD design software would be advantageous, but not essential. (e.g. AutoCAD, Microstation)
- Be able to input to Primavera P6
- Full UK driving licence
