Protection and Control Design Engineer

Job Introduction

We are a privately-owned High Voltage electrical contractor specialising in substation design and build from 11kV to 132kV.

Responsible for the production of Protection Engineering drawings/documents (Schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable block diagrams, cable schedules, core sheets, key line diagrams and panel layouts and arrangements) and checking against Design Specifications, programme, budget and to the appropriate quality and health and safety requirements.

Role Responsibility

·       Production of Protection Engineering solutions

·       Detailed Protection Design

·       Provide technical support and guidance on allocated schemes

·       Checking of Engineering Technical Specifications

·       Checking of Design Risk Assessments

·       Checking of Design Quality Plans

·       Responsible for technical issues on allocated projects

·       Maintain the design change control process on associated schemes

·       Provide timely responses to non-conformances raised through the NCR+ process

·       Coordinate with other departments on associated schemes

·       Attend site meetings to discuss and advise construction staff on site related issues

·       Attend Technical Meetings with Client, site or office based, to ensure Client satisfaction

·       Recognise and communicate business opportunities within ongoing projects

·       Gain product knowledge and site knowledge through visits to UK sites

·       Provide tendering support when require

The Ideal Candidate

·       Fully conversant with the latest Transmission and Distribution standards & technologies applicable to Protection Engineering

·       Fully conversant with Health and Safety standards (including CDM Regulations) applicable to the design of Protection Engineering

·       Able to prioritise workload to ensure all deadlines are met

·       Full UK driving license

·       Flexible approach to design solutions

·       Decision making skills

·       Positive working attitude, able to demonstrate self motivation and a proactive approach

·       Able to work within a team environment

·       Must be a confident communicator and proactive problem solver

·       Good written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills

·       Use of different methods of communication to interpret and express technical information in English

·       Practical working knowledge of key Microsoft applications - Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet

·       Good customer focus/management skills

·       Experience of sustainability and environmental design considerations

·       Knowledge of commercial/contractual issues

·       Good working knowledge of AutoCAD

·       Knowledge of LVAC and DC Systems

·       Experience of Engineering Base Cad software

·       Experience of Omicron Protection Relay Test Equipment

·       Abide by all Business Compliance requirements in line with Company policies, for example Business Conduct Guidelines & Confidential Information

·       Demonstrate compliance with the Department Processes and Procedures within the Primary Engineering Department

·       Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of Engineering systems and processes through the Top+ Business Improvement Programme within the Protection Engineering Department
