Lead Planner
Job Introduction
The Lead Planner plays a pivotal role within the PMO department, ensuring the successful planning, scheduling, and execution of projects. Responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating project schedules, identifying critical path activities, and proactively managing risks and opportunities to ensure the project is delivered on time, in full and within budget.
Role Responsibility
- Collaborate with project teams to develop and maintain end-to-end project plans through engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation and commissioning.
- Ensure the project plans align with the company objectives and client requirements.
- Work closely with project managers and department heads to allocate resources efficiently, including labour, materials, and equipment.
- Monitor resource utilisation and recommend adjustments to optimise project performance.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, identifying critical paths, resource pinch points and potential bottlenecks.
- Regularly update project timelines and communicate any deviations to stakeholders.
- Support the sales and commercial operations teams in allocating production slots in line with the sales pipeline.
- Utilise the project plans to support the business in creating revenue and cashflow forecasts.
- Foster effective communication between project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Identify potential risks and opportunities related to project schedules.
- Support the Project Managers in developing mitigation and contingency plans to address schedule-related issues.
- Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and proposed solutions.
- Implement lessons learned from previous projects to enhance future planning.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements in project planning and scheduling.
- Mentorship to other planning/scheduling functions.
The Ideal Candidate
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in project management, engineering, or a related field (Desirable).
- Master's degree in project management, engineering, or a related field (Desirable).
- Formal Project Management Qualification (Desirable).
- Formal Planning / Scheduling Qualification (Desirable).
Skills
- Proficiency in project management software, such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and mentor junior staff.
Experience
- Good understanding of Engineering, Procurement and Construction projects.
- Proven experience as a project planner with expertise in cost-based project planning and earned value management.
- Strong Competence within Microsoft Project
- Strong Competence within Primavera P6 (Desirable)
- Strong knowledge of cost control principles, including budgeting and financial analysis (Desirable)
- Experience building, configuring and administering enterprise data structures (Desirable).
