Test Technician

Job Introduction

Reporting to the Production Engineering Manager, the main purpose of the role is to functionally test and inspect a range of Switchgear products using a range of both medium and high voltage test equipment.

Role Responsibility

  • Reports to the Test Supervisor.
  • Ensuring that all products are correctly tested to the applicable standard/specification as per test schedules.
  • Operating medium and high voltage test equipment working safely at all times.
  • Working in conformance with ISO 9001/12000 test standards
  • Ensuring that the company quality policy and management system is understood and adopted.
  • Investigate/problem solve issues within the test department and report them to the supervisor.
  • Apply production procedures and maintain them for test personnel.
  • Identification and implementation of Health and Safety requirements within the Test department.
  • Achieve on-time delivery of product testing in line with the agreed production plan.
  • Willingness to be trained in delivering the company FAT programme across all products.
  • Can fault find electrical components using a schematic
  • Carry out mechanical assembly and tightness testing etc
  • Carry out High Voltage AC and DC pressure testing
  • Preform Primary & Secondary Injection
  • Switchgear function, control & protection testing
  • Experience in the electrical testing of MV switchboards including such items as protection relays, controls and metering.
  • Experience of PLC systems would be an advantage.
  • Experience with three phase systems
  • Insulation resistance testing
  • Experience of PLC systems would be an advantage

The Ideal Candidate

  • HNC or Degree in an Electrical discipline
  • ONC or equivalent will be considered in lieu of the above
  • 3 years or more engineering experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience of Protection relays (MiCOM, Argus, SIPROTEC etc)
  • Good IT skills in Microsoft Excel, Word
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 2 years of product familiarity would be desirable.
  • LV or MV Switchgear experience
