Sheet Metal Operator

Job Introduction

The Manufacturing Sheet Metal Operator will be responsible for interpreting drawings, performing quality checks, measuring and cutting material, assembling components, welding and other duties as needed. In this role, you will be responsible for operating a variety of machines to create sheet metal parts according to specifications. You will ensure efficient operations, maintain high-quality standards, and meet production deadlines.

Role Responsibility

  • Operate punch machines, laser cutters, press brakes, insertion machines, and stud welders to fabricate sheet metal parts.
  • Set up machines according to job specifications, including loading and unloading materials, and adjusting tooling.
  • Ensure all parts meet dimensional tolerances and quality standards by performing in-process inspections.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area, following all safety protocols.
  • May be required to assist with minor machine setups and troubleshooting.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • To produce sheet metal components in line with the production requirements as communicated by the supervisor.

  • May be requested to work in other areas of the facility during busy / quiet periods, with other departments, such as engineering and planning, to ensure smooth production flow.

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications or Functional Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating punch machines, laser cutters, press brakes, or similar metal fabrication equipment.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is a plus.
  • Experience with stud welding is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality control.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
