Senior Buyer

Job Introduction

To assure effective, value for money, core purchase of production materials; sourcing and managing professional supplier relationships beneficial to BRUSH and assuring quality service to the business. 

Procuring all business requirements at the right price, delivered to the right place, at the right time in the right quantity and with the right quality, all done in a safe and responsible manner. 

A key business contributor, your daily activity will underpin the overall business strategy and objectives, adding value, and reducing total cost of ownership whilst delivering exceptional operational and customer service. Against the backdrop of a mixed commercial environment, the role requires a proactive and logical mode of engagement to ensure a maximum yield from a complex and fast paced supply chain.  

 

Sitting within and supporting a Procurement team who control several commodities and supply segments. You will be accountable and responsible for all day-to-day site activities across direct and indirect procurement matters, whilst being key internal and external stakeholder interface for all business requirements. 

With value add featuring in all we do, you will balance business as usual and strategic projects daily, often championing or leading a particular project via a lean/continuous improvement mind-set. You will be adept at identifying and developing procurement, material and inventory supply solutions, cost reductions and operational service opportunities, to drive sustainable improved business outcomes.  

Role Responsibility

  • Manage the procurement process from requisition to delivery, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Provide cover and act as DOA for Procurement Manager when required.
  • Senior interface for the Procurement department on all site specific and supplier BAU, tactical and strategic matters. 
  • Development and continual improvement of strategic relationships through the supplier relationship and performance management framework.
  • Ownership and development of various supply chain projects in line with the procurement strategy and business growth plan.
  • Departmental contribution lead for budget, tactical and strategic planning.
  • Coach, manage, and appraise the performance of buying personnel alongside the Procurement Manager.
  • Deliver KPI’s relating to cost, cash, quality, service and continuity of supply for the portfolio.
  • Assist and contribute to Brush Group procurement plans and activities.
  •  Develop and drive the development of Procurement excellence within BRUSH. 
  • Commercially responsible and accountable for a selection of commodities, commodity groups, business areas and/or suppliers assigned by the Procurement Manager. 
  • Deliver cost savings through negotiation, supplier change or other strategies/tactics.
  • Order book management including but not permitted to progressing and expediting deliveries from vendors including overseas travel.
  • Conduct searches for new suppliers of goods and services, evaluate their capabilities, assess risk and qualify as necessary.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers to secure advantageous terms, including pricing, delivery schedules, and quality specifications.
  • Participate in vendor audits.
  • Documenting processes and generating monthly supply cost reports.
  • Monitoring the company's demand for products to avoid supply shortages.
  • Maintain system accuracy, including lead-time, pricing, current supplier information, current purchase order data, etc.
  • Contribute to the procurement and inventory strategies.
  • Proactively manage Health, Safety and Environmental matters for the department. 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum of 5 years procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ideally MCIPs qualified or equivalent
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills for Cost Modelling and Reporting.
  • Proven track record of cost savings and process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in vendor management and supplier relationship management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Readily accepts responsibility and ownership.
  • An attitude drive and determination to make a difference.
  • Full driving license
