SHE Manager

Job Introduction

Responsible for promoting a positive health and safety culture throughout the Business, Keeping employees safe, preventing harm and ill health.

This role will develop, maintain and protect Safety, Health and the Environment (SHE) standards within the business in accordance with current legislation and company policies and procedures.  Ensure the business, Managers and employees comply with all SHE legislation and that SHE policies and practices are adhered to in the factory.

The role will also facilitate the day-to-day operations of SHE and contribute to the planning, implementing, monitoring and reviewing of protective and preventative safety measures through working with Managers, employees, site operatives and the safety representatives.

Role Responsibility

  • Reports directly to the Group SHE  Manager with a dotted line reporting to the Site Manufacturing Director.
  • Working closely with the factory operations Management team.
  • To provide specialist advice for all matters relating to the statutory requirements concerning SHE factors to Managers, employees and safety representatives.
  • Supporting the compliance with the Implementation and maintenance of procedures to meet the requirements of ISO14001 and ISO45001.
  • Providing the company with statistics and reports in relation to SHE.
  • Compliance with the quality system, including issuing and tracking corrective action requests following internal and external SHE audits.
  • Co-ordination with SHE Legal Advisor in relation to work related claims.
  • Promoting a positive SHE culture and continuous improvement within the Company and developing SHE policies and procedures to support the business.
  • Supporting HR to ensure the company complies to the legal health surveillance requirements, working with the Occupational Health provider to ensure timely completion of medicals.
  • Assist Managers and Supervisors in the maintenance and develop of risk assessments to ensure they are relevant and up to date, eliminating and reducing risk to as low as reasonable practicable.
  • Assisting with the assessment of training requirements and provision of training to site employees regarding SHE including, toolbox talks.
  • Carry out accident and incident investigations, providing reports and identifying root causes and implementing action plans to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Sharing lessons learnt from accidents, dangerous occurrences and significant near misses with other group businesses.
  • Advising on a range of specialist areas, including fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.
  • Monitor and control to ensure that the PPE issued is compliant and being used correctly.
  • Ensure regulatory requirements such as COSHH, RIDDOR and fire plans are met.
  • Responsible for collecting data for the populating of key performance indicators and ensuring targets are met, immediately escalating any concerns.
  • Collecting data on a quarterly basis for the Green House Gas reporting.
  • Support the business in its approach to Net Zero and communicating and maintaining compliance to the Sustainability Policy whilst supporting the companies approach to ESG.
  • Empowerment to intervene with any non-compliance.
  • Leading site and service health and safety initiatives, including chairing meetings.
  • Ensure all data protection activities of personal and special category data; pertaining to current employees, customers and all other external stakeholders, are done so in line with the company’s data protection (GDPR) Policy.
  • Accountable for the adequate data protection activities and awareness levels within their area responsibility, in line with the data protection (GDPR) policy.

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications 

  • Must be competent and written and verbal English and Italian.
  • Be a CMIOSH, or working towards it and currently a Grad IOSH.
  • Formal training - NEBOSH/IOSH/IEMA or CIEH.
  • Exposure of BS EN ISO 9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001.
  • Experience of performing SHE audits to confirm compliance.
  • Excellent understanding of current SHE laws and legislation in Italy.
  • Experience of working with a SHE management system.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to managing SHE with a willingness to lead and learn.
