Procurement Manager

Job Introduction

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Procurement Manager will be responsible for all procurement activities across Brush Electrical Machines. You will be responsible for leading the procurement team to maximise value for money whilst developing processes and systems required to deliver excellence in purchase to pay, sourcing and contract management. This role will involve, direct responsibility for £8m of annual material spend with potential further opportunity to gain additional spend control. You will drive continuous improvement, best value and quality improvements within the team and challenge existing practices. You will also seek ways to achieve better outcomes to ensure key performance and financial targets are met and corrective action taken where necessary.

This is an exciting opportunity to transform the BEM procurement team, from a UK focused transactional purchasing team towards becoming a Category focused, strategic sourcing function. Utilising group leverage to enhance EBITDA and cash performance through the delivery of procurement cost reduction initiatives. As well as acting as principal procurement lead for all global spares and controls procurement, providing direct support for US division through Global Sourcing in the US market. This role will also involve occasional travel to international suppliers and other Brush sites. 

Role Responsibility

  • esponsible for the development, implementation, and on-going management of the local Procurement Strategy for Brush Electrical Machines.
  • Define and deliver category-by-category savings prioritisation and implementation plans.
  • Promote importance of procurement across the organisation and best practice through continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic commercial support and guidance for key supply chain projects.
  • Drive collaboration across Brush Group to deliver local benefit to Brush Electrical Machines.
  • Lead and motivate 5 direct reports (1 Senior Buyer, 4 Buyers) ensuring that they receive appropriate support, training, and development to achieve their potential. 
  • Build and enhance team capability and embed best practice, to evolve towards Procurement excellence.
  • Develop excellent and effective collaborative relationships with senior exec stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure strategic and operational needs are fully understood and incorporated.
  • Serve as the primary contact for procurement related questions, training, policy and procedure interpretation and alignment by all business functional teams.
  • To develop and manage local procurement processes in alignment with Brush Group
  • Implement value engineering principles to ensure robust supplier development and improvement, to support manufacturing continuous improvement and lean process developments.
  • Support group digital transformation agenda for improved operational efficiency.
  • Measure, review, analyse and assess opportunities and support spend transparency across the business.
  • Produce regular KPI scorecards and associated management reports locally and at Group level
  • Work within the relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Establishing and managing future demand and capacity planning including the development to supplier risk management.
  • Lead all key supplier negotiations around quality, cost, delivery & sustainability
  • Assess, manage, and mitigate risks in the supply chain through contract implementation
  • Monitoring and forecasting of upcoming levels of production demand to ensure the supply chain can deliver on time, in full.
  • Implement strategic sourcing, category plans to deliver sustainable cost and cash savings across Commodity spend areas –for both Direct and Indirect purchases.
  • Support supply base consolidation where appropriate, identifying new and innovative supplier development partnerships for consideration by the business.
  • Develop full market testing within each category to assess market rates and full asset life cycle improvement opportunities.
  • Facilitate development of relationship with existing and potential suppliers (SRM).
  • Lead and support group wide category management projects.

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications

  • Degree educated or equivalent. 
  • Qualified or working towards MCIPS qualification.
  • Six Sigma/Lean Principles.

  Skills

  • Experience of Visibility or similar ERP packages.
  • Demonstrable and evidenced management skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder relationship management skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills. 
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills including influencing and networking.
  • Strong analytical and financial management capabilities.

Knowledge

  •  Experience in Purchase to Pay (P2P) processes and procedures

Experience

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of related experience, with at least 2-3 years of team management.
  • Minimum of 3 years transferable sector exposure, ideally within an industry leading engineering and technology solutions provider.
  • Expertise in supplier relationship management, supplier development & improvement programs and ongoing compliance.
  • Proven experience in strategic sourcing and category management.
  • Experience of change management and value engineering, driving functional and process improvements.
  • Challenging and supporting the procurement team, other functional stakeholders and suppliers going through change together.
  • Results-oriented, metrics-driven head of department.
  • Direct procurement experience of sourcing spare parts & control panels.
  • Experience of sourcing indirect goods and services.
  • Record of delivering significant financial benefit.
  • Experience of commercial negotiations coupled with a high level of commercial awareness.
