Principal Engineer

Job Introduction

BRUSH Switchgear is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead and manage a team of Applications Engineers & Contracts Designers and their respective product portfolios. The Principal Engineer will also act as technical lead for all major projects and will liaise directly with customers and suppliers. In addition the Principal Engineer will assist the Engineering Manager with the strategy and Development of the Engineering Department

Role Responsibility

  • To manage a team of Senior Applications / Applications Engineers and Contract Designers to deliver the technical specification based on contract requirements
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in the management of all Core Engineering aspects of the Engineering Budget
  • Develop and implement new and innovative systems, technologies and methodologies and maintain and modify existing systems when required.
  • Support audit activities from a Technical perspective – RISQS, ENA, Customer
  • Analyse project requirements to provide technical and functional recommendations.
  • Lead technical discussions both interdepartmentally and with customers.
  • Provide support in product acceptance testing and validation activities – ENA, PADS.
  • Evaluate existing engineering processes and recommend improvements.
  • Perform system failure analysis and provide corrective actions.
  • Participate in project analysis, design, implementations, and commissioning phases.
  • Support R&D in the development on New Products
  • Assist with QE investigations – lead any technical support of these investigations
  • Advise manufacturing teams with Continuous Improvement concepts
  • Coach and train other staff in all technical areas through a robust training plan
  • Maintain effective systems to monitor multiple product supply under Utility Framework Agreements
  • Lead the technical support of any new or revisions to framework bids.

 

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications:

  • Qualified to Degree level in an Electrical Engineering Discipline

Skills

  • Ability to work on own initiative creating project plans, milestones to deliver on time and in full.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective influencing and negotiating skills
  • Detail oriented with the skill set to resolve problems
  • Ability to present data effectively and clearly
  • Problem solver with a methodical approach and an eye for detail

Knowledge

  • Good IT skills in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
  • Knowledge of quality systems
  • Working knowledge of business systems
  • Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge
  • Detailed understanding of ISO9001:2015
  • Understanding of ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001
  • Understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of relevant industry switchgear standards

Experience

  • Relevant and meaningful experience of working within the switchgear industry
  • Commercial experience and/or BRUSH Switchgear product knowledge considered.
  • Previous site commissioning experience
  • Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of dealing with customers and suppliers
