Mechanical/Craft Apprenticeship

BRUSH Switchgear are pleased to announce several opportunities for apprenticeship' for eager and ambitious individuals who are seeking a career in a well established manufacturing business. 

Successful candidates will gain an in depth understanding of the manufacturing processes of BRUSH Switchgears products. This will be achieved by undertaking a 3/4-year apprenticeship scheme that is steeped in mechanical principles, product build processes, product knowledge, departmental processes and an understanding of where/how and why BRUSH Switchgear products are required on our customers distribution networks. This apprenticeship will be supplemented with the relevant education course that will run for the duration of the apprenticeship.​ 

We have various entry level and progression parts including: BTEC, NVQ, HNC/HND.

Role Responsibility

  • ​​Apprentices report into the Apprentice Co-ordinators  

  • ​Follow apprenticeship program gaining an understanding of what is required for assembly of all BRUSH Switchgears products. 

  • ​Follow apprenticeship program gaining the relevant product knowledge for all BRUSH Switchgears products. 

  • ​Follow apprenticeship program to gain an understanding of manufacturing processes and how they contribute to the business 

  • ​Complete regular assessments to demonstrate development and understanding whilst progressing through the apprenticeship 

  • ​Keep a work record of each milestone of the apprenticeship that can be used as assessment tool (this can be a SharePoint based work record). 

  • ​Complete required educational courses in Mechanical Engineering  

  • ​Year 1 BTEC/National Diploma undertaken prior to joining BRUSH.  

  • ​Years 2-4 will be full time employment at BRUSH Switchgears factory (details will be provided as part of the apprenticeship program) 

  • ​There will be an assessment at the end of the second year to establish if the apprenticeship will follow a technical or craft route.

The Ideal Candidate

​​Qualifications 

  • ​1 full year college for Engineering based learning 

  • ​GCSE’s – Maths/English/Science/Design Technology grade C & above 

​ 

​Beneficial Skills 

  • ​An understanding of basic component drawings 

  • ​Any Mechanical biases courses studied either GCSE or above 

  • ​An understanding of technical drawing would be beneficial 

​ 

​Knowledge 

  • ​Good IT skills in Microsoft Office  

  • ​Good verbal and written communication skills
