Mechanical Engineer

Role Responsibility

Summary:  This position provides Engineering expertise to the company in areas of maintenance and design, of both onsite and field operations. This position assumes responsibility for a variety of responsibilities, all mechanical/electrical in nature.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Design of new and upgraded generator components utilizing 3D modeling software.
  • Failure analysis of generator components.
  • Reverse engineering of existing components using various methods often including 3D modeling methods.
  • Creation of manufacturing drawings and specifications using GD&T standards.
  • Interface with shop floor personnel to ensure products are manufactured in accordance with drawings and specifications; taking into consideration of man, method and machine to ensure part is optimized for manufacture.
  • Assist Project Manager and Production in inspection & repairs of generator rotors and exciters by developing quality assurance documentation, repair methodologies. Provide input regarding cost and schedule to Project Management.
  • Travel approximately 10-25% of the year to support field repairs and trouble-shooting of installed equipment.
  • Coordinates maintenance and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment.
  • Evaluates and supports field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
  • Specify materials for purchase, metals, electrical components, insulation materials, using drawings and purchase requisitions.
  • Specify material requirements to be purchased for projects.
  • Creates and modifies engineering designs using 3D modeling software.
  • Performs Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Uses traditional analytical techniques to support and validate decision making and design efforts.
  • Regularly interacts and supports manufacturing, field representatives, and customers with various engineering and technical matters.
  • Develop a technical understanding within the engineering group and provide support to internal and external customer in the subject areas of rotordynamics, vibration, bearings and static/dynamic balancing.
  • When customer needs require, is expected to extend their hours to complete specific customer work that involves hours outside the expectations for the regular position workload.

The Ideal Candidate

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Required Education and Experience: Bachelors of Science Degree – Mechanical Engineer from a four-year college or university or a combination of education and at least two-four years of experience in the power generation field. Vibration analysis and/or High Speed Balance experience preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • Microsoft Office Suite which includes Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook
  • Solidworks 3D modeling software
  • Mathcad

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Current driver's license

Valid COATS Card
