Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Introduction

A great opportunity has arisen at the BRUSH Group for a Mechanical Engineer. The focus of this role will be to design, prepare & complete documentation packages including drawings in 3D CAD & PDM for Power Transformers.

The successful candidate will support to the activities of the Transformer Engineering Department to focus on delivery of the Engineering team projects and goals. In addition, the post holder will be required to develop effective working relationship with internal stakeholder and external customers.

Role Responsibility

  • Produce Mechanical Designs for Transformers and Reactors up to 132kV Transformers as per Scope of Work.
  • Prepare manufacturing and customer drawings under the direction of Team leader as per Scope of work. Such drawings might include but are not limited to: Tank & Cover, Yoke clamps, Transformer assembly and general assembly drawings.
  • Produce Bills of material and upload then onto PDM system
  • Produce Tender GA and Tendering documents.
  • Check and approve supplier offers and drawings.
  • Ensure that all designs and applied technology are compliant with the relevant technical, safety and environmental standards and codes of practice.
  • Analysis of test results and feedback into database for future use and reference.
  • Working with the customers to achieve the required specifications
  • Develop best practice for Transformers designs and process.
  • Update and maintain the design software including Inventor and standing drawings.
  • Actively work on continuous improvement of Transformer design and optimisation
  • Engage with the customer to achieve the required specifications
  • Work cross functionally to develop best practice for Transformer designs
  • Maintain understanding of engineering processes, Quality systems and awareness of HSE requirements and obligations
  • Produce Technical details for Mechanical Designs for preparation of O&M Manuals.
  • Produce Technical Datasheets and Compliance documents with the Tendering department.
  • Produce required technical documents to support sales teams.
  • Produce shipping lists for Transformer and Reactors.
  • Support IT department to keep Sovelia and CAD systems up to date.
  • Support Projects: Check and review scopes of work are technically correct before being released on the system.
  • Support Quality teams on supplier development and inspection.
  • Support Purchasing department to order items based on material type with controlled documents.  

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree -  Mechanical. 

Skills

  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk vault is must
  •  Experience in PDM system is preferable

Knowledge

  • Mechanical Design of Power Transformer and Reactor for 132kV and 150MVA

  Experience

  • Must have relevant and comprehensive Transformer Mechanical design experience in an OEM environment.
