Job Introduction

Role Responsibility

Summary:  Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control. This is a repair machine shop for power generation industry.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Prepare working sketches for the illustration of product appearance.
  • Selects, aligns and/or positions, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Set up and operate metalworking, brazing, heat-treating, welding, and cutting equipment.
  • Program computers and electronic instruments such as numerically controlled machine tools.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Establish work procedures for fabricating new structural products, using a variety of metalworking machines.
  • Design fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.
  • Overtime is a requirement as-needed which may include, weekdays, weekends or holidays.

The Ideal Candidate

Supervisory Responsibilities: Not applicable.

Education and/or Experience: Associate's Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or at least one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Machining Skills: Able to effectively use machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, Boringmill, CNC, Waterjet.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Current driver's license, Valid COATS Card

Computer Skills: Minimal computer skills required.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
