Engineering CAD Technician

Job Introduction

Working within the Engineering Section of the Engineering Department the role of Electrical CAD Technician is to support the growth and expansion of new and existing products from initial concept through to routine build and provide technical support for CAD systems used.

Role Responsibility

  • Managing, maintaining and improving all CAD systems
  • Training of new and existing staff in the use of CAD systems
  • Support New Product Introduction
  • Developing opportunities for automation for new and existing products.
  • Develop and maintain control procedures for automated processes
  • Develop and implement Engineering RoadMap projects
  • Create new and review existing work practices to support the site CI initiatives
  • Work with the Engineering Leadership Team to develop best practices, efficiency improvement whilst supporting the growth and development of the Contracts engineering section
  • Assist engineers with initial design requirements and conceptualise plans and details to accurately convey fabrication requirements
  • Assist with project document control
  • Provide engineering support and assistance to internal departments
  • Provide support in the production of departmental KPI’s

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications

  • HNC in an Engineering discipline
  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a CAD Technician or similar using AutoCAD

Skills

  • Extensive CAD drawing experience
  • Recognised Apprenticeship would be of advantage
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills
  • Detail oriented with the skill set to resolve problems
  • Ability to present data effectively
  • Problem solver with a methodical approach and an eye for detail

Knowledge

  • Good IT skills in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
  • Proficient in AutoCAD systems, AutoCAD Electrical in particular
  • Proficient in 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks
  • Proficient in ECAD design, Use of Capital Electra X and/or EPLAN
  • A good understanding of fundamental Mechanical and Electrical principles
  • Knowledge of electrical protection systems would be an advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of relevant industry switchgear standards

Experience

  • Experience of switchgear design and/or utilisation would be an advantage
